NUR 104 - Introduction to Nursing


Credits: 2 credits

Introduction to the role of the professional nurse as provider of care, coordinator of care, and member of the profession. Topics include but are not limited to the introduction, fundamental, safe-practice, effective-care, healthpromotion, and concepts of nursing practice, history of professional nursing, a systematic framework for decision - making, mechanisms of disease, the needs and problems that nurses help clients manage, and basic psychosocial integrity. Emphasis on knowledge, judgment, skills, and professional values within a nursing framework. This course focuses on the Nursing process as a problem-solving approach to clinical judgement in performing components of nursing care. Focus is placed on those nursing activities, which involve introduction and fundamentals of nursing, safety, effective nursing care and the basic nursing care concepts and skills. Activity and comfort, safe environment, effective-care, documentation, health assessment, data collection and psychosocial integrity.
