EDU 219 - Characteristics of Exceptional Children


Credits: 3

This course focuses on a study of childhood mental, emotional, and physical disorders and the relationship of these disorders to academic and social functioning. Also included is a study of gifted children and the unique challenges faced by this population. This course will also cover public policy issues as they relate to the successful adaptation of the child. Such topics as the provisions set forth in The Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) and other legislation relevant to the exceptional child will be presented. This course is designed for students enrolled in the Psychology, Education, and Child Development programs.
