ECE 111 - Society, Family, and Diversity in Early Childhood Credits: 3
In this course, students learn how to encourage children to become contributing members of their general society. This includes their participation in family structures, in the classroom, and the community at-large. Emphasis is placed on goals that encourage the development of a child’s self-esteem, self-reliance, and involvement in the greater social structures that shape thought and action. Students will identify ways to promote a multi-cultural and culturally competent classroom and will explore the importance that things such as field trips play in developing positive experiences for young learners. Methods of integrating multicultural, intergenerational, government, ecology, geography, community living, holiday celebrations, and current events into the curriculum will also be explored and practiced. Lastly, students will explore the rationales behind the importance of parent-school-community partnerships.
